Career

My current position is as a Senior Security Admin Analyst for a Fortune 100 company. It involves, among other things, Sarbanes–Oxley (SOX) compliance, SAS 70 audits, assorted User Access reviews and other regulatory reviews and audits. Our main tools include Microsoft Access and SQL Server.

I have many years of experience as a Systems Analyst, Database Designer and Web Developer. I'm experienced with PHP, ASP and a wide variety of databases (mySQL, SQL Server, Access) in an interactive web environment. I am an expert with html and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) and am currently developing Departmental, project and other Intranet sites with Microsoft Sharepoint Services. SharePoint Designer 2007 has come a long way from its (widely criticized) FrontPage origins.

I've developed systems utilizing Visual Basic and / or Microsoft Access against numerous databases including Oracle, SQL Server and Sybase. I have training and years of experience in SAP programming using ABAP/4.

Select Highlights
  • Optimized SQL queries for a large hospital system resulting in over 99% reduction in processing time
  • Developed systems in financial areas which saved clerks 15% of their time
  • Designed and developed a versatile Quality Assurance system in a manufacturing environment

I am an occasional contributor to expert technical sites, including Less Than Dot and Tek-Tips.

If you have any challenges that are an opportunity for a versatile, experienced developer, please email Greg to see how I can help you resolve them. Feel free to download a modified version of my resume in Microsoft Word format.

Boardgaming

We love to play board games. Some current favorites are Martian Rails and China Rails from the Empire Builder series. We're also big fans of the entire Ticket to Ride series. I was the gamemaster for Merchant of Venus at 9 of the first 10 World Boardgaming Championships (formerly Avaloncon) sponsored by the Boardgame Players Association.

Check out my Merchant of Venus page and get more info on the BPA and the convention.

Jamaica

We took a trip to Jamaica way (way) back in 1999.

Public Speaking

I've been a member of Toastmasters International since 1991, except for a brief seven year hiatus ending in mid-2008. Toastmasters is the world's largest self-help organization, dedicated to helping its members improve their communication and leadership skills. I completed the requirements for the Advanced Communicator Silver (ACS) award late in 2009. I'm currently serving the Script Masters club as its Vice President Public Relations. I expect to complete the requirements for the Competent Leader (CL) award in about a month and the Advanced Leader Bronze (ALB) later this year.
