Toledo Plastic Modelers mourn the sudden loss of long time member Thomas "Tom" Cox, 70, who passed away at his home on April 8, 2018.   Tom was born September 25, 1947, in Wyandotte, MI, and was a proud Air Force Veteran who served honorably during the Vietnam War.   Tom was an automobile salesman for more than 30 years, and after retiring continued to do work for the Toledo Mud Hens and Walleye teams.

Tom was an active member of IPMS Toledo Plastic Modelers.   His scale models have won numerous awards in national, regional, and local competition.   His positive attitude, his enthusiasm, and his willingness to share his skills with other members will be missed.   The club members offer their condolences, thoughts, and prayers to the family.

On January 28, 2010, the Toledo Plastic Modelers hosted a kid's Make & Take at their normal meeting location, Hobbytown USA, in Holland, OH.   By all accounts, the event was a big success.   The club only wished that there had been more time and room to get more kids involved.

As it turned out, there was a lot of participation from a group made up of kids with their Big Brother / Big Sister mentors.   The kids had a great time, and the adults seemed to have fun building the kits too.   There even appeared to be interest from the participants about the wide variety of kits on the market, and what it would take to continue in the hobby.   We also had a good showing from the club membership with many of them jumping in to give a hand and guide them through the construction process.

The club is now considering making this an annual event, and as we learned from the Big Brothers / Big Sisters in attendance, there is also interest from their group to do more make & takes with the kids too.   Everyone involved had a great time.   The only problem was that the time went by too fast.
