Airbrushed Paintings
All airbrushed portraits are painted on watercolor paper which is textured or smooth and of a medium weight. I can also paint on canvas, but I do not stretch it on stretcher strips but rather mount it to a ridged masonite board. The airbrushed paintings are all done freehand with no stencils. The paint is a permanent pigment airbrush paint that has an acrylic base. I coat all paintings on paper with a clear matt spray, and coat the canvas paintings with a brushed on semi gloss clear.

Digital Paintings
The digital paintings are done using software brushes to digitally paint the images. I begin with a photographic image that has been manipulated in Adobe Photoshop to create an under painting. I then use a program called Painter to digitally paint the portrait. All prints are printed out on acid free paper or canvas with permanent inks, and are then coated as described above. A benefit of digital paintings is that they can be reproduced in many sizes on lots of different papers and canvas.

Reproduction Rights
In the case of all portraits done by John Fehling the commercial reproduction rights are owned by the artist. The purchaser of the artwork owns the physical artwork and in that case can make reproductions for themselves but not to sell the image or to use commercially.
