Visit to the Glass Bowl

Ceej, a member of our online hobby group, picked a "Sports" theme for the August 2012 photo challenge, so I took Feodora to the Glass Bowl for a photo shoot. Toledo, Ohio is called "The Glass City" because of the glassworks that originate here. The Glass Bowl is the home football stadium of the University of Toledo  Rockets.

I have a minor problem. If I wait too long between meals, my blood sugar drops and and I get loopy(er). So I had a light lunch before I left. I soon discovered three things in increasing importance:

    a) my 'light lunch' was not 'light' enough to go out on a photo shoot
    b) the Rocket Marching Band was practicing on the football field, so I could get into the stadium for part of the photo shoot
    c) I am seriously out of shape!

I waited for a cooler day for these outside activities, but I soon became sweaty and exhausted. It was all I could do to get Feodora in position for the pictures without getting my nasty tee shirt sweat all over her nice dress. By the time I got back to the apartment, I was a little less careful. Hugging her felt great, but I just was not in the mood. Her "Eck!" comment did not help, either! That shower sure felt good, though!

In 1961, the University of Toledo procured a genuine rocket from the U.S. Army missile program. The one-ton rocket, which sits outside the Glass Bowl — aimed to hit the 50 yard line of arch-rival Bowling Green's Doyt Perry stadium — carries two sets of fins and a propellant booster capable of guiding the missile to supersonic velocity. Several signs around the stadium honor UT sports alumni.

The Glass Bowl is used for monster truck rallies, commencements, concerts, and also for other uses.

The Glass Bowl is often used by the Glassmen as a rehearsal facility during weekends in the late spring and early summer.

I had to tie Feodora's hat on. The wind kept blowing it off. I should have got into a picture with her while we were out. If I had been in better shape physically, I would have taken her to the big fountain by the Student Union building. I might do that on another day.

Feodora Verochka Tychovich is a life-sized platinum-cured silicone rubber doll. She was produced by Oleg Bratkov (a gifted sculptor) and his beautiful wife Irina (excellent makeup artist), at Anatomical Doll in Vladivostok, Russia. Feodora has Face 3 and Body 3 of their product line. She has a fully articulated skeleton and can pose in most natural ways that a human can pose. There are 'stops' on the skeleton that prevent her from posing in unnatural ways. This also helps to prevent damage to the silicone.
