DSL Modem Configuration for eMule
by jnomina
These are basic instructions for setting up the Westell Wirespeed with eMule.  This isn't a full solution, but it is correct with regards to the specific DSL modem.  This page can be used as an example for any port-forwarding needs for the Westell Wirespeed B90-210030-xxxx.
Continued from previous page...
Now we have 2 of 3 ports set, just one more to go.  Click "Add".
Lastly, we add our UDP port range of 4672 to 4672.  Same as before, just make sure you tell it UDP before clicking "Next".
If your Service Details look [something] like this, you're almost done...

Go ahead and click "Close"  which will close the pop-up windows and take you back to the main screen to finalize setting up.
Use the pull-down menu and scroll to the bottom to find and select your new service (by the name you gave it).
Click the "Enable" button to start your new service.
I don't know if I get this particular pop-up window because I'm on a local network, but if it appears for you, select whatever default it gives you I suppose by clicking "Done".   Hints:  may be computer's IP address, in my case, "Raven0" is the computer I'm using for eMule.
If everything went right, you should have a new service running as in this image.

Please note that the second "Delete" button (next to the newly added text) doesn't delete the service you just made, but it "Disables" your new service if you need to turn it off.  Your service will remain in the pull-down NAT menu. You have to select it in the pull-down menu and delete it with the "Delete" button NEXT TO the pull-down menu to delete it completely.  Confusing, I know...
We're almost done.  Select the "Home" button on the left button list to return to the main page.
At this point, I click the "Restart Connection" button (NOT "Reset Modem" button), just to make sure I've refreshed it completely.  Then I check NAT settings again to make sure that the new eMule service is still enabled.  You shouldn't have to do this, but it's a lot like rebooting the computer after you do anything serious like installing software.  Also, I now reboot the computer after closing Firefox, for the very same reason (any significant system change...)  Maybe not necessary, but "just to be sure".
You may need to open eMule and change the port settings in Options/Connections to 4662 TCP and 4672 UDP.  If they aren't already set to these ports, you'll have to close and reopen eMule for the changes to take effect, at which time you should finally have a Hi-ID.

If you do not have a Hi-ID after doing all of the above correctly, it's time to look into port- forwarding within your particular firewall.  You may need to match your firewall with your NAT settings.  If you have a Westell B90-210030-xxxx, I'd recommend working on your NAT settings before the firewall (personal opinion, after months of not getting things to work right).

                                                                Further Notes

I have been informed (and I had wondered)...  TCP Port 4711 is only required if you are using the Web Interface (eMule/Options/Web Interface).  I am not.  Therefore, it depends on your uses.  I have deleted port 4711 from my configuration, and everything is working fine without it.  Just an FYI, why open it if you aren't using it?  If you are using it, ensure that your port setting in Web Interface options matches the NAT setting.

It has been recommended to use different ports instead of these 'standard' ports for security purposes.  In such a case, I'd recommend TCP 10000 instead of TCP 4662 and UDP 10001 instead of UDP 4672. I have seen two pairs (10000,10001 and 58833,30293) appear automatically during re-installations of eMule.  However, this DSL modem says that 58833 is greater than 65535 and won't allow it, so I can't even test the second set.  Regardless, your NAT forwarded ports and eMule's Options/Connections port settings must match to acheive a Hi-ID.

You may need to set other options within eMule to stabilize your connection once you have achieved a Hi-ID.  For HELP with stabilizing your connection, I'd recommend reading the last few posts on this forum page: Official eMule Board.  This NAT setup page is presumably and hopefully finalized.  My thanks to all who helped!
