Biography For the family of Martin J. Glynn and Barbara E. Fessler
MARTIN JOSEPH GLYNN was born on 07 April 1845 in North Ireland. We know this according to one of the federal population censuses that were taken, but we do not know his home town or county where he immigrated from. The 1900 population census record indicated he immigrated in 1865. His parentage is unknown at this point in time. There is a picture in the possession of descendants of Martin and his brother John that was taken in Chicago. So it is possible that he came into the United States through the Port of New York or the Port of New Orleans before settling in Shelby County Ohio. I have information from another researcher that indicates Martin got his citizenship on 11 Jan 1868, but I do not know the details or where that took place. BARBARA FESSLER was born on 04 Sept 1854 in Ohio, the daughter of John Jacob Fessler and Catherine Ganger. The first record I have of them as a couple is their marriage record on file with the Shelby County Probate Court. It indicates that they were married on 12 Aug 1871. This is interesting because from family and census records I have the birth date of their first child John as 28 October 1871. The family next shows up in the 1880 federal population census, living in Loramie Township, Shelby County, Ohio. Martin is listed as a farmer and has 6 children in the household. Martin's obituary states that he had resided in the vicinity of Houston for all of his active years. The family is listed again on the 1900 federal population census, living still in Loramie Township. 4 children are living in the household with Martin and Barbara . Barbara is listed as being the mother of 10 children, 8 living. Barbara died on 07 December 1909 at her home in Loramie Township. She died of typhoid fever at age 55. Martin is found again in the 1910 and 1920 federal population census records, still living in Loramie Township. Between the 1920 and 1930 censuses, Martin had moved in with his son Albert and family, because Martin is enumerated with this family on 03 April 1930. Then on 09 October 1938, Martin died of stomach cancer, which had lasted 2 years. He had been bedfast for the greater part of the previous four months. Martin and Barbara were members of the St. Remy church in Russia, Shelby County, Ohio. There they were both buried in the church cemetery. I have just begun research on this family and at the present time, do not have any other documents on them. There are 11 known children, all surname GLYNN:
