Artist's Statement: My influence...was the work of the Cuna women (a matrilineal society of the San Blas Islands) known as the mola, a form of applique which often has a red background. Like many people these women are inspired by traditional myths and objects and events in their surroundings. So I looked for something from everyday life that could symbolize larger feelings prevalent today.
