Saffordophylum Coral

This 10 inch complete coral has an interesting story. My sister actually found it buried under topsoil in Columbia, Tennessee, where we grew up. We were looking for old bottles in a forested site used as a dump maybe 75 years ago. It seems as though some kid probably brought it home and his parents pitched it with the garbage! We have found innumerable other complete corals within a mile or so of here weathering out of the upper Ordovician cliffs, however none as nicely weathered or large and complete as this one! You never know what you might find in someone's old garbage!
