Axinite

This crystal of transparent purple axinite is from the Oisans mountains
overlooking the scenic town of Bourg d'Oisans.
It would measure 2 inches long except for the ding at far right. It is accompanied by a small spray of olive epidote.

Russian Axinite

This crystal of transparent axinite is from the Ural mountains.
It measures almost 3 inches long and is terminated everywhere!
Thanks to Steve Bringe for the photo! My photo below of the back side reveals the transparency of the edges (center is translucent with inclusions). Gotta love this one!

Peruvian Axinite

This large crystal cluster of axinite is from the Andes of Peru.
It is 5 inches long and the sharply terminated tips to the bottom are transparent. The specimen is 100% axinite. Largest crystal can be traced through the specimen over 4 inches.

Californian Axinite

This beautiful crystal cluster of axinite is from Calaveras County, California.
It is 2x3 in. The sharp crystals, (to over 3 cm.!) are transparent and sherry auburn. The specimen is accompanied by a couple of complete quartz crystals.
It is with great pain that I confess this one had to be repaired after our USPS literally bashed it to bits in route to me. I glued back Humpty together again.

And you thought the only thing that comes from Calaveras County is jumping frogs!

I don't usually do links, but being a certified axinitoholic, I include below a couple of interesting ones:

This is one sweet axinite site!
Here is an expensive, but very informative commercial site.
