Snake Den Trail
Looking for a great fall color trail without many fellow hiking enthusiasts?
You might consider the Snake Den Trail, just off the Cosby campground loop's
east end. The AT and the magnificent Madron's Bald are less than five miles
away, on a steady, well-maintained path through an excellent variety of mixed
hardword, maple and oak as well as hemlock and rhododendron. En route, you
will find a nice quiet stream, a rather large cemetary, a good-sized stretch
of old growth forest, and wonderful views of the higher elevations in the
northern end of the park.
