Look Rock
Look Rock is not actually in the Great Smoky Mountains. Rather, it is located
along the Foothills Parkway which runs NE/SW parallel to the northwest border
of the Park. Here you will find a large concrete fire tower and weather
observation equipment. A wide ramp grants easy access to the deck above,
from which beautiful views may be seen in all directions. There is a
short, half mile at most, jaunt from the parking area to the tower. You will
also find below the parking area a patio-like observation area affording a
wonderful view over Happy Valley. This is a nice afternoon side trip for
those staying in the Townsend area.
