Leslie at the top of the Indian Gap Trail

Indian Gap Trail

From the Chimneys parking lot to Indian gap is about three and a quarter miles. Although there are some mountain laurel and rhododendron along the Chimneys trail, there are no significant June flowers along the way once you pass the turn-off to the gap from the Chimneys trail.
The trail is in pretty good shape. I managed to stay dry shod, but plan on getting your feet wet crossing streams and soggy bottoms, unless you are a mighty good rock hopper. The climb is steady, but much of it is over-rated in difficulty by the available guides. Very primitive atmosphere. No views except at the very top. We took one and half hours up and one hour down at a good clip. Expect three or four at a slower pace. The descriptive marker at the top makes the trail come alive with ox-carts and indians! A very worthwhile trip.
