The Scenic Trail at the Gatlinburg Headquarters
This one mile, sometimes-paved trail is a very easy hike for the more casual
of outdoorsmen. Beginning at the Sugarlands visitors center, the trail
follows the west prong of the Little Pigeon River into Gatlinburg. There are
no major elevation changes. However, if you are unfamiliar with east Tennessee
hills, you may be surprised. The river offers photo opportunities and serene
rests. Several old home sites are apparent by their stone hearths in
clearings. The days of their habitation can be easily and vividly imagined.
View of Gatlinburg from the scenic overlook near the Sugarlands Visitors
Center (this view is not on the trail, but I wanted to put a Gatlinburg
picture in somewhere and this seemed to be the closest place!).
