The Japanese 320mm heavy spigot mortar was a late war design.   It was crudely constructed and used as a beach weapon for close defense in batteries on Okinawa and Iwo Jima in 1945.

Rick built the all resin 1/35th kit from MR Modellbau saying that it was an easy build that definitely looked the part when finished. He commented that while the castings were good, the kit suffered from a lack of any instructions. The only modifications he made to the kit were the bracings added to the fins, and some foliage placed on the base. Rick used Tamiya paints for color and applied a subtle weathering with pastel chalk.
