This is the Tamiya 1/48 F4U-1 Corsair with markings from VMF-222 at Munda Airfield, New Georgia, Solomon
Islands in late 1943. Early Corsairs suffered from serious fuel leaks from the wing tanks.
VMF-222 repaired the leaking tanks and partially repainted the wings with locally mixed paint. At the
same time areas subjected to severe wear were also repainted, resulting in an overall patchwork finish.
The extreme weather and lack of maintenance also contributed to the weathered and worn appearance.
