Day 3: Sunday

Summercourt

Map of Summercourt.

The little town of Summercourt pretty much closes up on Sunday, so transportation and food was limited. In order to eat, we'd have to shop. In order to shop, we had to...walk to town, of course! We partook of the Carvynick amenities, including: the sauna and solarium, the indoor heated pool, and the 16th century bar/restaurant known as the "Fox's Revenge." The Fox did indeed get his revenge: The food was not that great.

This was the last time we ate at the Fox's Revenge - and for good reason. At about 2:15PM we were finished with out lunch, and were ready for some dessert. We were informed by the waitress that the kitchen closes at 2 (their sign outside said 3), and therefore Amber coudn't have any chocolate cake. We supposed it was too much trouble to go in the back and cut a slice off the darn cake. We tipped her a few pounds even though we didn't want to, we left, and we never came back.

This was something we had to get used to. In the US, most restaurants serve food all day. If their doors are open - they're serving food. In England, most restaurants are a pub first, and a restaurant second. Therefore, food is only served between certain hours of the day. Invariably, these were not the hours during which we are accustomed to taking our meals.

We had an eye-opening incident when we saw a McDonald's off in the distance and decided to walk towards it, only to discover that our sense of distance was skewed from never having to walk more than 20 feet to any location. McDonald's was several miles away! The rolling farmland plays tricks on your eyes.
