Alan's Sentinel Pass Page

This is my favorite picture because I hiked (rock climbed) up Sentinel Pass, just below the cloud in the center of the picture. Looking closely, you can barely see a zig-zag for hikers to walk over the very steep pass. I was stupid and daring and thought I could go straight up the rocks on the side. Well, I did make it, but I was in over my head. I became especially nervous when, near the very top, I heard many snow avalanches rumbling on the adjacent mountain. When I got to the top, I met up with 3 other hikers who had, unbeknownst to me, been watching out for me to see that I made it to the top. They were very kind people. From the top, we slid down the other side on our butts because it was so icy and steep. Then we hiked the rest of the day together for a terrific day.
