"Scent of Beauty" A sweet scent Passes beneath my nose An unknown flavor I glance up Barely catching a glimpse Of a beautiful lady Her eyes radiant Her smile vibrant as the Sun's rays I rise, hoping to follow I glance around the corner Nothing She has disappeared A giggle behind me I whirl around and just miss her I chase more quickly now Trying to catch up with her To tell her of her beauty As if one so perfect Would ever need to hear my words My imperfect, inaccurate words I follow, I run I attempt to catch up Finally Finally she waits for me And as I reach out To take her into my arms They come together empty Wrapping around nothingness An illusion A false image That is all she was All she is A figment of my imagination Why would I ever believe That I could have one so perfect So beautiful In my life I dream of many things Both beautiful and wonderful Yet all that I am allowed to experience Is that which others cast away Sometimes a treat But many times painful She was a tease She tempted me She tried me And then she hurt me no end A scent in the breeze And nothing more
