ActiveState's ActivePerl seems to be the primary Perl interpreter for Win32. The support for ActivePerl is
spectacular, be it from ActiveState or via experts on their mailing lists. There are also a large number of
pre-compiled modules ready for download, as well as a tool to download the Perl modules directly from one of
several available repositories.
MED is my preferred programmer's text editor. It color-codes the text based on a variety of programming
languages, has built-in compiler support, and provides a drop-down for quickly jumping to a function
in your code. The best part is, it has a lifetime license of about $35.
Roth Consulting and David Roth have put together some spectacular modules for managing Windows systems
and networks, as well as a number of examples on their usage. The repository is available in PPM via:
CPAN stands for the "Comprehensive Perl Archive Network", and houses or links to a wide variety of
Perl resources, including modules, Perl distributions, and script examples.
ActiveState provides a number of mailing lists to communicate with other developers and to obtain support.
These lists are invaluable when seeking assistance with code problems.
