Lake Forest College Brings Home 2005 Collegiate National Championship

Photos and Story by Rick Stevens

As a father and biased spectator of the 2005 Collegiate National Handball Championships, I am pleased to report the youth involvement in our favorite sport is on the increase. This year's tournament held in Minneapolis, Minnesota on February 23-27, 2005, had the largest entry ever and the most colleges represented in the 53 years of the event. Fifty (50) colleges from the United States and Ireland and 275 athletes battled with true team spirit and fun.

The enthusiasm of the participants for each team was contagious. No other handball tournament approaches the passion I observed over the 5 full days of competition. Hats off to the dedication of the coaches, because without their hard work the growth of handball in our colleges would cease.

Anyone who has the opportunity to witness a collegiate tournament will be rewarded with an experience that renews your own love of The Perfect Game. Please enjoy a few snapshots from a thrilling week of handball action.
