Lake Forest Welcomes Two Toledo-Area Handballers

Ty and Derek
Lake Forest College (30 miles north of Chicago) is the new home to two Toledo-area freshmen. Derek Meiring (left) of Carlton, Michigan and Tyler Stevens (right) of Toledo hope to add more championships for the Foresters and Coach Mike Dau. Coach Dau already has 19 National Collegiate Handball Championships to his credit.

In addition to handball, Derek joined the Foresters cross country team. A highly decorated athlete in high school, Derek lettered in basketball and track. He swung into handball under the influence of his dad at the age of 13.

Tyler turned to the "Perfect Game" at age 15 after years of playing football, baseball, and basketball. Tyler's father encouraged his son to enter the novice division of the city tournament. In this tournament, Tyler enjoyed the challenge of handball and decided this sport offered more than the other sports in which he was involved.
