O Thou, whose just-ice reigns on high,
And makes th'op-pres-sor cease,
Be-hold how en-vious sin-ners try
To vex and break my peace!
The sons of vi-o-lence and lies
Join to de-vour me, Lord;
But as my hour-ly dan-gers rise
My ref-uge is Thy Word.
In God most ho-ly, just, and true,
I have re-posed my trust;
Nor will I fear what flesh can do,
The off-spring of the dust.
They wrest my words to mis-chief still,
Charge me with un-known faults;
Mis-chief doth all their coun-sels fill,
And mal-ice all their thoughts.
Shall they es-cape with-out Thy frown?
Must their de-vi-ces stand?
O cast the haught-y sin-ner down,
And let him know Thy hand.
God counts the sor-rows of His saints,
Their groans af-fect His ears;
Thou hast a book for my com-plaints,
A bot-tle for my tears.
When to Thy throne I raise my cry,
The wick-ed fear and flee;
So swift is prayer to reach the sky,
So near is God to me.
In Thee most ho-ly, just and true,
I have re-posed my trust;
Nor will I fear what man can do,
The off-spring of the dust.
Thy sol-emn vows are on me, Lord,
Thou shalt re-ceive my praise;
I'll sing, How faith-ful is Thy Word!
How right-eous all Thy ways!
Thou has se-cured my soul from death,
O set Thy pris-oner free,
That heart and hand, and life and breath
May be em-ployed for Thee.
