Blest are the hum-ble souls that see
Their emp-ti-ness and pov-er-ty;
Trea-sures of grace to them are given,
And crowns of glo-ry laid up in heaven.
Blest are the men of bro-ken heart,
Who mourn for sin with in-ward smart;
The blood of Christ di-vine-ly flows,
A heal-ing balm for all their woes.
Blest are the meek; who stand a-far
From rage and pas-sion, noise and war;
God will se-cure their hap-py state,
And plead their cause a-gainst the great.
Blest are the souls that thirst for grace,
Hun-ger and long for right-eous-ness;
They shall be well sup-plied and fed,
With liv-ing streams and liv-ing bread.
Blest are the men whose hearts do move
And melt with sym-pa-thy and love;
From Christ the Lord they shall ob-tain
Like sym-pa-thy and love a-gain.
Blest are the pure, whose hearts are clean
From the de-fil-ing powers of sin;
With end-less plea-sure they shall see
A God of spot-less pur-i-ty.
Blest are the men of peace-ful life,
Who quench the coals of glow-ing strife;
They shall be called the heirs of bliss,
The sons of God, the God of peace.
Blest are the suf-ferers who par-take
Of pain and shame for Je-sus' sake;
Their souls shall tri-umph in the Lord,
Glo-ry and joy are their re-ward.
