Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life
Donald S. Whitney
Contemporary

'It's not uncommon for an accomplished musician to be able to sit down in front of a new piece of music and play it though without a hitch. It seems easy, as if playing required no effort. Yet, the 'freedom' to play with such skill comes only after years of disciplined practice.

In the same way, the freedom to grow in godliness—to naturally express Christ's character through your own personality—is in large part dependent on a deliberate cultivation of the spiritual disciplines.

Far from being legalistic, restrictive, or binding, as they are often perceived, the spiritual disciplines are actually the means to unparalleled spiritual liberty.'

Future Grace
John Piper
Contemporary

An interesting study about living by faith... a faith that continually looks to God to provide grace in its proper season. John examines his subject from a host of angles... the fallacious "debtor's ethic",the freeness of grace, looking back to grace already given, law and works, faith, conditional promises, sanctification, unbelief, etc.

Led by the Spirit
Jim Elliff
Contemporary

'What does it mean to follow God? In a personal and pastoral way, Jim Elliff seeks to help the believer gain confidence in understanding and following the will of God.This book is not only practical, but answers some of the most important questions which confuse sincere believers in their desire to do God's will. Jim Elliff emphasizes that guidance has far more to do with sanctified reason than such extraordinary measures as seeing signs or hearing voices. This is a balanced and biblical approach to a vital subject.'

This is an excellent, in-depth Biblical examination of conscience, guilt, and how to deal with sin. John also exposes the foolishness of modern psychology, with its emphases on self-esteem, blame-shifting and guilt-denial.

Number in Scripture
E. W. Bullinger
1837-1913

Certain numbers seem to have great significance in Scripture. There were twelve tribes and twelve apostles, ten commandments, and forty day fasts. The number seven seems to have much significance in the book of Revelation, as in creation and the Sabbath. Bullinger explores the Biblical significance of these and other numbers.
