These are photos of the so called 1/650 scale AMT/ERTL model of the Klingon Bird of Prey. This model was assembled and hand painted without any modifications. The kit parts and mating surfaces were so precise that plastic putty was not required anywhere on the model.

The kit was assembled to a modular level meaning top and bottom wing halves were glued together, main body was assembled, wing activation devices assembled, etc and was painted prior to final assembly. This was done because attemting to paint the model after final assembly would have created many challenges in painting recesses and other hard to reach areas. The model was completely painted by hand using only a good paint brush. Since the paint scheme of the bird of prey is such that no one single color could serve as a base coat, use of an airbrush was unecessary.
