It is critically important that Evergreen District
Schools at the primary and secondary levels make continuing progress
toward average yearly progress (AYP) and improve State WASL competency
goals in Mathematics, Literacy, and Science. Neither we or our kids
can afford to soft-soap poor results by making comparisons of WASL scores
over a 5 year period. This only serves to wash out the significant
drop from 2006 to 2007 WASL scores for the 4th, 5th, 8th, and 10th Grade
levels at each primary and secondary school.
As your school board director, I would strongly advocate for school
improvement plans that incorporate best practices from successful schools,
have increased checkpoints throughout the school year, and accountability
to measure and insure successful WASL progress, additionally moving our district
schools into approved status under NCLB requirements. We can't
afford to wait another year for results and further leave students behind.
As your School Board Director, I believe I can help our district achieve
better academic achievement with accountability that we are putting
district resources forward to provide the right solutions for the right
problems.
