The ruins of Glastonbury Abbey, Somerset.
This famous abbey was destroyed during the Reformation. The Glastonbury
Thorn tree growing in the grounds is reputed to have sprung from the staff
of Joseph of Aremethea when he plunged it into the ground on arrival from
the Holy Land with the Holy Grail. It only blossoms at Christmas
and the blooms are, by tradition, plucked and sent to the Monarch on Christmas
Day. In this picture you see Liane standing in front of a chained
off grave. The placard adjacent to it says: "Site
of King Arthur's Tomb. In the year 1191 the bodies of King Arthur
and his Queen were said to have been found on the southside of the Lady
Chapel. On 19th April 1278 their remains were removed in the presence
of King Edward I and Queen Eleanor to a black marble tomb on this site.
The tomb survived until the dissolution of the Abbey in 1539."
