The subject of Black and White Photography is a vast and daunting one.  It is not by coincidence that one sees far more quality photography in color, than one does in black and white.

The color photographer is aided by the ability of various color hues to visually separate different elements of a scene.  In black and white, the photographer is bound to only light, form and composition.

The skilled photographic artist can create an abstraction of "real life" in black and white that communicates an aesthetic often transcending the beauty of color.

I will not discuss technique or materials here in detail, as they are of concern only to other photographers.  I employ various cameras, films, chemicals, papers, and development methods that I find best suited to the task at hand.  The work presented here was created using camera formats that require 35mm roll film, 2 1/4 inch roll film, 4x5 inch sheet film, or 8x10 inch sheet film.

The only constant being the use of enlargers fitted with a cold light head.  Condensor heads distort the tonal range and are incapable of reproducing the smooth gradation and all-important "feeling of light" captured by a properly exposed negative. (I only use the 35mm camera format when capturing action or when great mobility is required. The small size of the 35mm negative is almost never capable of delivering the quality that I demand from my work.)
