Reproductions: The Giclee Process

What is a Giclee?

Giclee (zhee-clay) is a French term, in this case, referring to a "spraying of ink".

This is the most advanced technology in existence today, being used for the
reproduction of fine art.  This is "the" process used by the world's greatest
museums and galleries.

Because of this unrivaled quality, It is the only process that I will use.

Here's how the process works and why it is the best:

1.  The painting is photographed using a 600 megapixel digital camera.

To get an idea of just how amazing this resolution and clarity is...
consider that the majority of better digital cameras on the market today, for home use, are 5-6 megapixels.

The camera used for this process is 600 megapixels....that's 100
times the resolution and clarity of the best cameras on the market.

2.  The same type of canvas used for the original painting is affixed to a drum.

After the canvas is affixed to a printing drum, the inks are applied by an enhanced Iris 3047, or other digital ink jet printer which has been specifically modified for fine art precision.

The drum is rotated at high speed, and the individual colors are sprayed on at a rate of 4 million 15 micron droplets per second.

The inks used are the most archival water-based organic inks available
in the world.

After the inks are applied, they are followed by special UV light retardant
and light stabilizer post coatings.

The apparent resolution of the digital print is 1,800 dots per inch,
which is higher than a traditional lithographic print, and has a wider
color gamut than serigraphy.

Giclee prints render deep, saturated colors, and have a beautiful
painterly quality that retains minute detail, subtle tints and blends.

3.  The canvas is stretched over wood stretchers just like the original painting.

This final step assures maximum archival quality and endurance.

4.  The result is a museum quality print.  This print on canvas is nearly identical to the original painting, and is as close as can be produced by modern science.

Reproductions: Pricing

Q.  Why buy a reproduction?    Why not buy the original?

A.  The answer is simple...the cost.

The originals are for sale but here's something to consider...

The originals can be purchased.  However, unlike photographs, or any other mass produced article, in the case of a painting, only one individual, collector, gallery or organization can own the original.

As a result, an original can be prohibitively expensive, and beyond the means of many people who would enjoy owning and cherishing one or more works of fine art.

I offer all of my work in the form of affordable reproductions of the highest quality
possible, in order that anyone can purchase and enjoy them.

The type of reproduction which I use is called the Giclee Process.  It is without question, the highest quality, most technically advanced means of duplicating original paintings currently available.

This includes printing on cotton duck canvas, which is stretched on wood stretchers, the same as the original.  In most cases, shipping is also included.
