Work History and References

My interest in Doubles started in the early 1980's by collecting Parker shotguns. Through the 80's I progressed to Lefever shotguns, then English doubles, and finally, in the 90's, to double rifles, which is where my current collecting interests lie.

I began working on the guns in the mid 80's as a hobby. Refinishing Damascus barrels was the focal point. By the early 90's (after several years of experimenting) I finally developed a process that closely duplicates the original bold contrast through a traditional slow rusting process - not an etching! (Etching can leave the finished surface with a texture - mine are smooth). The different phases of gunsmithing I have picked up by experimentation, reading and trying, practice, and listening to my customers. No, I did not attend a gunsmithing school. No such thing exists in the United States for this type of work.

My education is a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. I was in the paper industry up until 1993 when I became a gunsmith. I have been a full time gunsmith for nine years now. My references will verify that you will receive professional work at very fair prices with exceptional turn around times.

I am a one man show so getting hold of me on the phone can be a tough order. Being to the point and limiting your calls is appreciated. My time at the bench allows me quick turn arounds - phone conversations do not.

I do barrel work (primarily Damascus browning) for just about every major double gun dealer and gun repair facility in the U.S. I re-brown approximately 200 barrels per year, rust blue another 100, and stock approximately 12 doubles a year. I process about 25 repair and refinish jobs on doubles a month. I am a busy guy!
