Bridges Books and Media
The purpose of this page is to provide a bibliography of books and movies and
any other media that would be pertinent to the research and understanding of the
Bridges family. Note too that usually family histories are privately or self
published and are short runs. If you are at all interested in purchasing a
recently published family history book, I would suggest buying them immediately.

7/99 Seedtime on the Cumberland by Harriette Simpson Arnow (New
York, 1960)
Is the story of how men, chiefly from the southern colonies, learned to
live away from the sea and look to the woods if need be for most of their
necessities. Covers the years from approximately 1780-1803 along the
Cumberland River in Kentucky and Tennessee.
7/99 Flowering of the Cumberland by Harriette Simpson Arnow (New
York, 1963)
This book is a companion book to Seedtime on the Cumberland. It is
concerned with the pioneer as a member of society engaged in those activities
which, different from hunting or house building, could not be performed by a
lone man or family. The first and most important of these was marriage, and
the creation of another family with its consequent need of the offerings of
any civilized society – language, education, agriculture, industry and
trade.
