Edinburgh

Kris and I had a great time in Edinburgh. We had sunshine for our whole stay (apparently rather rare),

we met interesting people, and we stayed awake for about 20 hours/day.

This is roughly the first view I got of the Royal Mile. It looks to me a little bit like something out of a Harry Potter novel -- like there must be magic involved to hold that many crazy buildings so close together. I love it!

The Royal Mile is so named because it is bookended at the top by a castle and at the bottom by a palace. The castle was historically really for the military and for defense. Here is a picture of part of the castle.
The palace was more suited to the likes of the royalty. We couldn't go in during our visit because the Queen of England was actually in residence, thus the picture taken through the gates. However we did get to see lots of old (doubtless important) people dressed up in kilts on their way to the Queen's garden party!
Here is Kris outside of the Scotsman's Lounge -- a bar that she will likely remember for some time.
