Rennes-le-Chateau

We visited Rennes because of a video game. No seriously, Matt had played a video game

set in Rennes and wanted to visit it, at least in part, because of that. However the video game

wasn't the only reason for the visit. Matt was also drawn by the mystery of this area which involves

a priest in the 1800s named Sauniere, Templars, and the Holy Grail. For those who want to know

more, a history of the area is currently located at: http://www.rennes-discovery.com/INTRO.HTM

A theory about the meaning of the mystery is given in the book Holy Blood, Holy Grail

by Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh, Henry Lincoln.

Here we are, proudly showing off the fact that we're in the middle of nowhere. Rennes is up on the top of the hill where I'm pointing (on the right) and we actually stayed in a lovely bed and breakfast at the bottom of the hill so we got to hike up and down a couple of times a day -- remember that this was the summer when all those people died from the heat in France!

The scenery in the area was beautiful -- not only could we see the Pyrenees but there were sunflowers and lavendar and lots of quiet countryside.
That ivy covered building is where we stayed. The place is called Les Labadous and I highly recommend it if you are ever in the area!
