Carcassonne -- A Middle Ages Walled Cathar City

We only stayed here one night, mainly because this is where the train left us at the end of the day.

The old city was very impressive-looking but also really touristy. We also happened to be in town on a

fairly chilly, windy night which didn't do a whole lots for our impression of the place.

To the left is the entrance to the old walled city. To the right is the cathedral inside the city. It's a bit hard to see in this picture, but everything inside the walls was so packed together that this cathedral really was squished in between other buildings. Note how the round stained glass barely fits between the stone uprights on either side.

Here is a view of the city from a distance. It's a bit hard to see but at least you can get some idea of the scale of the city and how well-preserved the walls are.
That is one packed graveyard!
