A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE IPMS/FREMONT KITBASHERS MODEL CLUB The Fremont KitBashers Model Club was formed on March 19, 1994 at Dave's Trains & Hobbies. Six individuals who shared a love of building scale models came together that day to share their knowledge and expertise not only with each other, but also with the youth of the Fremont, Ohio area. These six gentlemen, Larry Deisenroth, Mike Edwards, Will Karbler, Gary Reedy, Dave VanDerluis, and Bob Walters, were true to their commitment. Today's Kitbashers club carries on the tradition of sharing the benefits of their experience and skill with others to the fullest. As of March 2000, we have been a chartered chapter of the International Plastic Modelers Society USA. Belonging to this fine society provides our Club with more resources for the exchange of ideas, discounts at certain hobby shops throughout the country, and support for the various projects with which the Club is involved. These include field trips to places like the US Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio and assorted air shows. From time to time we also host a local IPMS-sanctioned model contest, and co-hosted the 2004 and 2006 IPMS Region 4 Conventions with the IPMS/Toledo Plastic Modelers Chapter. We are also involved with the annual Plastic Model Contest and Exhibition at the Sandusky County Fair. You can see photographs of our club in action on the Gallery Page. In 2007 our efforts were recognized with the IPMS Region 4 Chapter of the Year Award. And now we have an Internet presence. Who are we? Our backgrounds are as varied as the kits we build: engineers, military personnel, truck drivers, accountants, students, and a retiree build cars, planes, ships, military vehicles, science fiction spacecraft, fantasy/horror figures, and whatever else may come along in resin, vinyl, or injection-molded styrene plastic kits. To join the KitBashers, you must be at least 18 years of age; children under age 18 must be sponsored by an adult. The sponsor assumes responsibility for the child - trips to and from club meetings, club events, and contests. Membership entitles both the sponsor and child (and of course, adult members) to free admission to all club-sponsored events and to other club privileges afforded our members. Membership in the IPMS/USA is encouraged but not required. At present there are no dues for club membership. So if you enjoy gluing pieces of plastic together in any way, shape or form, we'd like to make you a KitBasher! OUR FACT SHEET The IPMS/USA maintains a "Fact Sheet" with essential information for every chapter. A portion of ours is reproduced here.
