My first duty after boot camp began in early October, 1969 and it was 'A'
school at the Naval Communications Training Center in Pensacola, Florida.
After 'A' school they put me in a 'C' school for a more specialized task and I
finished this tour in April of 1970. The base was later changed to the Naval
Technical Training Center.

My second duty station after 'boot camp' was NAVCOMSTA Finegayan in Guam,
Marianna Islands. When I got my orders for Guam I was anything but happy about
it however, once I got to Guam I fell in love with the island. I arrived at
Andersen AFB in April of 1970 and thought I was going to suffocate when I
stepped off the plane due to the hot, humid air. In the short time I was in
Guam I experienced a Typhoon, a massive earthquake, and the birth of my son. I
have particularly fond memories of the Filipino friends that we had there. I
was transferred in September of 1971 and went back to Indiana for a month
before going to Europe. I hope to return to Guam for a visit someday. Just

From Guam I was sent to Italy over half way around the world. My wife, son,
and I arrived in Brindisi in October, 1971. This was my favorite duty station.
The base was run by the U.S. Air Force and the people in Naval Security Group
were a tight-knit group. I also loved this country once I learned the
language. The food, scenery, historical sites, and people are unforgetable.
We were able to drive to our next duty station in April, 1974.

My last duty station was the Naval Security Group Activity at RAF Edzell,
Scotland. This was my least favorite duty station and yet it was my favorite
country. My Scottish page tells it all. I parted with the Navy with an
honorable discharge in January, 1977 and immediately went back to Scotland

I found out about the Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association (NCVA) while
surfing the net and have since joined that organization. I have included a

This is probably the largest veterans organization in the world. I would
encourage all eligible veterans to join the American Legion in order to support
their fine programs and to ensure that this country's veterans are never
