This is a letter of reference for Denny Fohringer, guitar instructor.
Denny has taught my daughter, Julia, lessons for two years. She started with only an interest and no experience other than one year of piano lessons (many years ago.) Denny's casual and accepting style allowed Julia to gain confidence and a joyful ease with her guitar. Denny knows how to relate to teens (Julia is now 14) and encourages them to choose their own songs while using the iPod as a tool for that purpose. Julia now thoroughly enjoys playing guitar and is able to lookup any song she likes and learn the chords herself.
We tried lessons with a more 'standard' approach where the student is given a book and told to return for the next lesson after working on a few pages. That didn't work for her.
Thanks, Denny, for your hands-on 'let's just play it' attitude that really allowed Julia to learn and enjoy guitar!

He knows almost every song ever written. He has like five guitars. He never gets angry if you forget something or didn’t practice. He lets you choose what you want to learn. He always teaches you the basics first. He has a great sense of humor. He tunes your guitar for you, so you don’t have to do it. And then in my words: I highly recommend Denny as a guitar instructor because he is a dedicated professional, clearly loves music, can play perfectly, and write out the notes to, any song you name on the fly, has a gentle and humble spirit perfect for children as well as adults, and knows all about music, inside and out. His love and knowledge of music is evident in his teaching style and in the way he engages the student. Thank you for teaching Ryan so effectively. We will miss you! Karen O. |
