NOTE
The articles below have been removed to avoid possible copyright lawsuits

Due to the antics of recent "copyright troll" start-up firms like Righthaven, I've removed the articles below from my website. The business model of these "copyright trolls" is to scour the web for posted articles; buy the copyright from the original publisher; then sue whoever posted the article for $75,000. No takedown notice or email/letter requesting that the poster remove the article -- just a demand for $75,000. Of course, they prefer to settle the lawsuit for a few thousand dollars. Yes, folks -- this is what our copyright law has become -- this is nothing but a "shakedown."

I'm afraid that if I got hit with one of these "shakedown" lawsuits for articles that are 7 to 10+ years old, I'd definitely have to go "Postal" and I'm too old for that.

Although Righthaven started out just looking for
Las Vegas Review Journal articles posted on the web, other publishers are now signing on & I'm sure there will be more "copyright troll" start-ups on the way (unless it gets nipped in the bud). After all, what a great way to make a living! With costs exceeding $10K just to defend yourself in an out-of-state court, it's much easier & safer for most folks to just settle for a few thousand dollars regardless of innocence or fair use.

Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has a great piece on Righthaven's brand of Copyright Trolling here.

Techdirt has done a great job reporting on this shakedown
here.
