In March of '96 Dave flew from Japan to Thailand with his friends Bridget and Kirsten for a month while classes were out at Nagoya University. Although he was burnt severely by the sun and had a few gastrointestinal incidents, he truly enjoyed himself and vowed to return someday with Ku.
When May of '99 rolled around, Dave and Ku headed back to Thailand along with Ku's mother Siripin and her husband Rodney. They visited Ku's (rather large) family and traveled the country in search of adventure.
