CAROLINA HOMESPUN
Information: 540-957-1174
Orders: 800-450-SPUN

The best thing about Carolina Homespun is Merike (pronounced like America without the "A"), the owner. She carries just about every kind of spinning and weaving equipment you could possibly want, and she knows the equipment well. She also carries knitting and crochet supplies, and a variety of commercial yarns.

Best of all, she sells fleece, right off the animal. I have bought many pounds of Cotswold and mohair fleece from her, and it is all beautiful. She will wash the fleece for you, for a small charge, and she also occasionally dyes fleece for sale.

Merike sells prepared spinning fibers as well. I have two favorites--the Lincoln top and the domestic top that is softer than Merino.

What's so wonderful about Merike is that she treats me like a friend, as well as a customer. I put her on the spot and asked her to send me a pound each of five different spinning fibers, and I've enjoyed them all.

HALCYON YARN
800-341-0282

What can I say? Halcyon is the first mail-order business I ordered from, and I have always been happy with their service. They carry a wide range of yarns and spinning fibers, spinning, weaving, knitting, and crocheting equipment, a variety of starter kits, and chidren's supplies. The one time I was unhappy with something I bought from them, the woman I spoke with told me to send it back, no questions asked, for a full refund, including the price of my shipping it there.

Their customer service is superb, and they will ship anywhere in the world. I doubt you will be able to find a better mail-order store anywhere.

INTERWEAVE PRESS
800-645-3675

If you're reading my book, you're probably familiar with Interweave Press. They publish Spin-Off Handwoven, Interweave Knits, and a wide range of fiber books. They are a class act, which is a rare compliment from me.

LARK BOOKS
800-284-3388

Lark Books publishes a wide range of craft books, as well as wonderful catalogs full of their books, other publishers' books, and craft supplies. I love reading their catalogs, because I always find something I hadn't heard of before. I got my Andy Goldsworthy books from them, as well as my peg loom. And when I ordered a lot of books one time, I got a free book about Ed Rossbach. I didn't even know this book existed, and reading it widened the scope of my work.

UNICORN BOOKS
800-289-9276

Unicorn Books is the place to go for just about any craft book you could want. They have the most comprehensive catalog I've seen (and I've seen a lot!), including books published in Great Britain. I often see books in their catalog that I dreamed about wanting without knowing they existed. I particularly recommend any book by Jan Messent, the English fiber genius
