Acquiring domain names for a website has become something of an art, as many companies buy up domains just to sell them to people who really want them. It's similar to a 1800's land grab in the Old West, where the landowners were owning the land for the sole purpose of reselling it with no intention of developing it.
McDonald's finally bought MCDONALDS.COM from a Mr. McDonald who had originally bought the domain for his family. McDonald's had the gall to attempt to sue him for the name, but settled for a $10,000 fee. In 1999, BUSINESS.COM was sold to a California web development firm for a record $7.5 million. These days, though, common sense has prevailed, and the main reason for a domain name has gotten back to simply making it simple to communicate verbally your website address. Thus, for you, DRKEANNA.COM, DRKEANNA.NET, and maybe something like NOMERCURYDENTIST.COM would be appropriate. Having three or four domain names also makes it possible to get higher search engine ratings. (See Search Engines) |
