I am a graphic artist and
love to build and paint monster models, especially those from the fifties B
rated flicks. I love painting, drawing, writing (short tales, poems
and lyrics for the songs that I write). I love woodworking (building
furniture and small projects as gifts and for sale) and music, playing my
guitars and singing and designing speaker cabinets to suit my needs as a
musician. I love to come up with projects that will challenge and stimulate
the skills and talents of each craft that I work with..
I'm going to be 52 years of age soon and only recently discovered this fine
hobby. I used to be a painter in college (I've got BA from
Parson's School of Design and the New School of Social Research),
of pictures dummies, you know like Van Gogh, the guy who cut off his ear,
LOL. So I really love hand painting my work and rarely use an
airbrush, just for the flat base coats and stuff. When you look
close at my work, you can see my technique of brushwork. Pretty cool I
think. I really love that look and feel its quite unique and eye
pleasing, especially to me.
I also love creating environments for each model -
to design horror, monsters and fantasy diorama's, preferably scratch
built.
Taking shots of them after their finished, of course, from different angels and
perspectives. Then finding appropriate themes for each shot in my mind and researching different elements for that shot.
Usually going to find things from the original movies on different web sites. (example: The Hunchback of
Notre Dame . . . pictures of bells, stained glass, original stills from the movie,
Notre Dame Cathedral itself were appropriate for that figure). It's a lot of research and work to find all the right elements to compose a picture in
Photoshop. And most times a lot of retouching of the individual images to make an idea meld and work so it looks real enough to make the audience believe that it is real and believable.
That's where my graphic sense of design and abilities comes into play.
But when it works its true magic on the screen. And I love to share it with my
peers, friends, and of course other modelers and creators of many sorts.
Art is usually a lonely place to be but it can be a place of honor and most rewarding to the self. Getting recognition is are greatest reward in this little field of model making.
Let's face it, pleasing the self is our greatest challenge in life. And this is mine.
I hope you enjoyed me sharing my gift with you. I certainly
did!
Lately I've turned to creating little story lines for my pictures. I hope to someday make
my own web site expanding my
workplace in the world of cyber space. Something, I guess, like
Monster Jones does. It really shows how much fun he's having with
his art. I always appreciate others who do there own thing and let
it be known that there having a great time doing it. Really, I think
my stuff is very good and hope you can write me and let me know too.
I love to sell from my arsenal of work.
I do think of my work as art, and that's our most greatest of gift and
rewards. Appreciation and acknowledgment, it's more valuable than
money can ever give.
I hope I've spurred some of you on to join in our quest for personal happiness and reward. You may just find this is your niche in life . . . I did!
Sincerely,
Rich Cacioppo
