KIRK BALLASH'S PROFILE

I started off building around age five.  My dad was building stuff and naturally I had to do everything that he did, so I got an early start in the world of plastic.  Airplane and dragsters were my subjects of choice -- until 1977 when George Lucas sparked my young imagination and my interests went in another direction.  Drawings of space ships, Lego spaceships and MPC Star Wars kits filled my days.  Eventually I figured out I could build more than just the kits and using an old Aurora aircraft base I created my first scratchbuilt spaceship design.  About this same time I discovered the local IPMS club and with teachings of fellow clubs members and a healthy dose of competitive spirit my skills improved a great deal.  Over the years my model shelf has grown with primarily aircraft and space / sci-fi.  I build sci-fi kits as well as continue to scratchbuild designs of my own.

I’ve been a long time member of the IPMS/Western Reserve Chapter on the east side of Cleveland, holding a number of posts in the club and most recently retired from the Region IV Regional Coordinator position.  I still enjoy the competitive spirit and am looking forward to getting to more shows as my modeling time increases.
