GARY COHOE'S SPACECRAFT PAGE

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA

(2004-2009 Sci Fi Channel Series)

This is a really neat kit when you consider that it's only 6“ long.

Thrusters are only painted.

Size comparison; both models are the same scale.

This model goes on top of my Christmas tree.

THE DISCOVERY

Here are photos of Gary's winning model of the coveted 2008 Black Swamp Modelers award for "Best Subject from the Year 1968". This was the Lunar Models version of the spaceship Discovery from the science-fiction film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

This is an extremely difficult model to photograph. [Not to mention edit!! - Webmaster]  This is a 1/144 Lunar Models kit with a completely scratch-built spine and a substantially re-worked command section. There is a complete, illuminated EVA pod garage (all pods are scratch-built). The  spine is pre-stressed upward at both ends, so that it sits straight when placed on its single mount point. There are well over 2000 parts in this model.

Antenna array and thrusters are scratch-built. The kit was modeled after the 2010 version and this depicts the 2001 configuration.

You may be able to make out the HAL console, space suit racks (with one blue suit), and ceiling vent motors. This is another fictional ship where the interior set can't match the exterior dimensions.

THE LUNA 1

The spaceship from Destination: Moon (1950), manufactured by Lunar Models. The background is curved clear acrylic painted black with a translucent earth and stars.

Note the antenna on the captain.

The crew colors (red/commander, blue/navigator, yellow/first officer, and green/medical) were also used in 2001 and Alien.

THE MILLENNIUM FALCON

An old MPC kit built with craft paints in 1980.

This kit had grain-of-wheat bulbs to light the cockpit and thruster area (they still work).

"What a piece of junk!"
