ABOUT US

The juncture where the Maumee river meets Lake Erie in northwest Ohio was once known as "The Great Black Swamp". Historical records indicate that the area lived up to the name. Some two hundred years later, this place has now become Toledo, Ohio.

Toledo is home to a couple of members of the International Plastic Modelers Society whose tastes in modeling run a little outside the mainstream of subjects like the "triple As" (Aircraft, Armor, and Automotive), ships, etc. These guys were frustrated by the lack of model contest categories for Science Fiction, Fantasy, Dinosaur, and like subjects at regional IPMS shows. So they resolved to create a Special Interest Group, or SIG, to provide a resource for builders with similar interests in the IPMS.

Thus was organized the Black Swamp Modelers SIG. The grim name from our home town's past seemed appropriate for a group that builds models from movie monsters to superheroes, spaceships to robots, dinosaurs, and who knows what else. Our aim is to provide a place where BSM members can share photographs of their work with the world, keep up with the latest news on developments in the plastic model industry that involve our genre, and provide useful information to help bring our members more satisfaction from their hobby. Most of all, we're here to have fun.

Membership in the Black Swamp Modelers is open to any IPMS member in good standing who build non-mainstream types of models. We do make an exception for a modeler who is not an IPMS member who wins the coveted Black Swamp Modelers trophy that we present annually within IPMS Region 4. If you'd like to join us we suggest that you look at the information in the article titled "How To Submit Material To The Black Swamp Modelers Web Site".

There's strength in numbers and builders like us are a small minority. We need you!
