Subject: Adventures in Creative Futility: Organ Lesson 26 (brief!) Date: Sat, 18 Apr 1998 12:37:51 -0700 To: {The Adventures in Creative Futility Network} Ladies and Gentlemen, Maestras and Maestros: Today was my twenty-sixth lesson. Because of the proximity of my next piano test, we agreed to concentrate exclusively on "cross-training" with material from the test. In fact, we spent almost the entire hour working on the March by Turk (PianoLab, page 123), ironing out the bugs so that (with a bit of luck) I'll pass the test with a high enough grade to make up for the low scores on the first and third tests. Towards the end of the hour, we had time to do a quick run-through of one other piece. We thought it best to skip the harmonization exercise on "On Top Of Old Smokey" (especially with the Altar Guild and the Rector present), since I'd be fighting off a "St. Louis Calliope effect"; my "blues" exercise was going fine without any help, so I just sight-read "Joy To The World." -- James H.
