Subject: Adventures in Creative Futility: Organ Lesson 23 Date: Sat, 14 Mar 1998 18:17:43 -0800 To: {The Adventures in Creative Futility Network} Ladies and Gentlemen, Maestras and Maestros: This morning, I arrived early for my organ lesson, and stood around until Maestro York arrived, a few minutes late. Poetic justice, I guess. We discussed a few minor things from last weekend (like the "progressive recital" and my discovery that St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church [Maestra Puhl's "other" church] got their organ fixed -- just in time for Lent!), then we got down to business, with the church mercifully quiet, for a change: no work crews fixing lights, no AA convention. We started on "God, My Father . . ." in Peeters, which wasn't half-bad considering that I hadn't touched it in nearly two weeks. Then, we went on to Scarborough Fair, which definitely has plenty of parsley, sage and rosemary; all it needs is a bit of the fourth seasoning. While Maestra Bellamy's practice sessions for the recital are history, I still wasn't free to keep practicing after my lesson: one of Maestro York's other students had the organ right after me. We also briefly discussed the issue of my arranging with Dr. Dahlin to try the tracker at First Lutheran for myself; I guess I'll be contacting him before too long. Either my theory midterm in Piano 2 was ridiculously simple, and I was grossly overprepared (I dug out my theory text from last semester, and re-read it) or I'm in deep scat. At any rate, the performance mid-term is this coming Wednesday evening: Scarborough Fair, the harmonization exercise of my choice, all flavors of e-minor scales, and primary chord progressions in the minor keys of Dr. Gould's choice. Wish me luck. -- James H. H. Lampert http://www.hb.quik.com/jamesl
